Students are allowed one makeup lesson per month in the event of either an
emergency (defined below) or an excused absence (defined below) without additional
charge. An additional cancellation by the student in a single month, for any reason, will
be treated as an unexcused absence (defined below).
An emergency is considered something that is both (1) unforeseeable and (2)
significant enough to render a lesson impossible, such as an injury, serious illness,
severe weather conditions, or similar unexpected, unavoidable occurrences. All
accidental oversights and other, foreseeable occasions (holidays, extended work hours,
medical appointments, etc.) are not considered emergencies.
An excused absence is any situation that is not an emergency (defined above) where
notice is given by email, phone, or both no later than one week before the missed lesson.
An unexcused absence is any situation that is not an emergency (defined above) where
notice is given less than a week in advance (or not at all). Students are responsible for
the full cost of an unexcused absence, as well as the cost of a makeup lesson, if
scheduled.
Teacher cancellation: If Elizabeth Erickson needs to cancel a student's lesson for any
reason, a makeup lesson will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time. This does not
affect the one makeup lesson per month associated with an excused absence (defined
