Liz has extensive music theory training, including sight-reading, both fixed and movable
"do" solfege, rhythm-reading, ear-training, both written and keyboard harmony, form and
analysis, and both 16th and 18th century counterpoint. While studying at the Longy
School of Music, she served as the Theory Department Teaching Assistant, teaching a
class of keyboard harmony and assisting undergraduate students with class material
and graduate students with preparations for their proficiency examinations. Liz is
currently doing research for her first music theory textbook, The Conceptual Evolution of
Music Theory: A Cumulative Understanding.
Liz has been playing cello for eighteen years and violin and viola for nine years, both solo
and orchestral, including gigging string trios and quartets, a competition-winning cello
quartet, audition-based orchestras, and musical theatre pit orchestras. She performs
her own new music as well as that of other modern composers and plays, composes,
and arranges for weddings and other events. Liz also plays folk-rock with Nils Erickson
and both performs and records with other bands and songwriters.
