Little Uncaged Musicians Classes for Kids
A lifelong love of music begins at -- or before! -- birth, and a playful, nurturing musical
environment lays the groundwork for music as a source of joy and solace, an intrinsically
rewarding form of active entertainment, and a safe way to channel aggression or
frustration into productive creativity. The benefits of music on all aspects of life for all
people, especially children, are beyond measure.

Why start your child's musical journey with Little Uncaged Musicians Classes? Children
love to sing and play, clap and dance, create and explore. Little Uncaged Musicians use
singing and movement to develop early understanding of pitch, rhythm, tempo, dynamics
(volume control, a parental favorite!), written notation, emotional content, and storytelling
through music. Classes draw heavily upon Dalcroze Eurythmics methods (which is also
the basis for the Kindermusic curriculum) with a large dose of Suzuki, so that children
gain familiarity with many songs and concepts from the beginning Suzuki repertoire.
Students will find it easy to graduate from Little Uncaged Musicians Classes to lessons
on the musical instrument of their choice, particularly if taught using Suzuki repertoire.

Most Little Uncaged Musicians are between one and four years of age, but younger and
older students are perfectly welcome and will be included fully in class activities with
special modifications to reflect their age, temperament, and experience. Children must
be accompanied by a familiar, trusted adult for the duration of each class. Generally, one
adult per one to two children is recommended; if an adult wishes to accompany three or
more children, an interview with children present must be scheduled before the session
begins to ensure that an appropriate learning environment will be maintained.

Classes are held on Fridays at 10:30am in four ten-week session per year over the
following three-month periods: Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, and Oct-Dec. Exact schedules
are released prior to enrollment. Class sizes are kept small, so when enrollment is high
an additional class will be organized for that session. When weather permits, class is
held outdoors in a safe, shaded backyard. Elizabeth Erickson teaches all Little Uncaged
Musicians Classes with the invaluable assistance of her small daughter, Fiona.
